House: Gryffindor. Which is really weird, because my family's all been in Slytherin before. But I don't care that much one way or the other. I mean, we're all just kids, right? It's not like we won't change between the ages of eleven and seventeen, not to mention after we get out of school.
Age: 12
Wand: Rowan and unicorn hair, for protection against evil. It's kind of gnarled and twisted, which is unusual in a wand, I'm told. I never lose it.
I've been here since my first year. My grandfather , Malachi, attended here, and a long line of Hargroves before him. They were all Slytherins, pureblooded. But grandpa fell in love with a Muggle and married her, and had my father, Caleb, and my uncle Robin. His family disowned him. When You-Know-Who came to power some Death Eaters came after my grandfather and his family. They killed uncle Robin, but grandpa hid with the rest of his family. Honestly, I think it sort of sent grandpa round the twist. But once You-Know-Who was gone, the family came out of hiding.
My dad's a Squib. He's also a vicar. He thinks magic is evil, but grandpa made him let me come to Hogwarts anyway. My mother's a nurse. She doesn't quite understand it all, but she wants me to be safe.
That's the other thing. My grandfather dabbles in divination. He's been convinced, ever since I was born, that the child or children of some of the Death Eaters who killed uncle Robin would come and try to kill me, too. That's why he wanted me to come to school, so I'd have a chance at defending myself.
Of course, the trouble with that is, you aren't going to meet the children of Death Eaters except in the wizarding world. In a magic school. I just hope I can learn enough to win the fight when it comes.
Favorite Hogwarts adult: Hagrid, I think. He's so friendly and honest and funny. I've heard he's not a great teacher, but I don't care. I'm taking his class third year anyway. At worst, it'll be an easy O.W.L.
Favorite Hogwarts student: All my friends, really. Corvi's my best friend, so she's tops, of course, but also Gavin and Israfel and Aspen and Mina and Siobhan and Neville Longbottom. Neville's my favorite Gryffindor. Oh, and the Weasley twins are fun. They don't go to school any longer, but when they were here they were great.
Least favorite person at Hogwarts: Ummm...Draco's pretty spooky. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to kill me. But my least favorite of all is Snape, I think. Do I really need to explain why?
Best subject: Defense, far and away. I study it on my own, so when whoever's after me finally catches up, I'll stand a chance.
Worst subject: Well...I get my worst marks in Potions, but so does every other Gryffindor.
Favorite Quidditch Position: Um...actually, I'm not all that into it. I mean, I joined the Intramural League mostly because Gavin talked me into it, and he's a nice guy. I kind of suck, honestly. I'm a Chaser, though. I don't mind playing when it's just the League. It's not as competitive, and no one yells at you if you stupidly miss a goal. Well, Mina sometimes does, but that's just her, it's nothing personal. But I don't get the gung-ho House Team Quidditch groupies. They're spooky.
Birthday: April 17.
Favourite Color: Any shade of blue, particularly gray blue, like the sea.
Favourite Food: Fish and chips.
Favourite Music: I like classical mostly, and neoclassical. Some musicals, too. Corvi's gotten me fond of Poe, but I'll never like the Clash as much as she does (and as for the Vandals…ick!). Mudblood and the Weird Sisters are okay, too. I was raised Muggle, so I don't relate to the wizard music as well as I'd like.
